Trump Leads Biden in Swing State of Michigan for 2024 Election: Poll

by Madeleine Hubbard

Former President Donald Trump is ahead of President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 presidential election in Michigan, according to a new poll.

Trump received 43% support, while Biden came in at 41% and Green Party candidate Cornel West is at 4%, while 4% support someone else and 7% are undecided, according to a survey of registered voters released last week by Emerson College Polling.

When asked about a hypothetical match-up only featuring Biden and Trump, the two men are tied at 44%, while 8% of voters said they would support someone else and 5% are undecided.

The poll also found 50% of Michigan voters disapprove of the job Biden is doing while 43% approve.

“Just over half of independent voters, 51%, disapprove of the job Biden is doing in office,” Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball said. “This is a pivotal group in Michigan that Biden won over in 2020 yet is struggling with both nationally and statewide in recent surveys.”

Trump won Michigan in 2016 by more than 11,000 votes, but he lost the state in 2020 by more than 150,000 votes, according to Politico.

Trump appears to be gaining on Biden in Michigan. Biden led Trump by 45% to 43% in a Mitchell Research poll of the state in early July.

Meanwhile, Trump is dominating the GOP primary in Michigan, with 61% of the vote in the Emerson poll. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis comes in second with 13% while former Vice President Mike Pence is third with 7%.

The Emerson College survey was conducted Aug. 1-2 with 1,121 registered voters and it has a 2.9% margin of error.
